 The Separation Two

The Young Man

That morning the young man had made a fifth callback

on a preeminent, prospective account where he had been

rewarded with his largest order to date.

Elated over the order but apprehensive about today’s

court appearance and especially fearful…

The young man was afraid the mere sight of his wife

would erode the façade of his resolve.

The five weeks of separation had, of course, caused untold stress.

But as though God were compensating him for the potential loss

of his wife and child, in those five weeks  his persistence had

paid off and in addition to this day’s major account,

he’d opened two lesser accounts.

Returning home…

to the home of his parents,

the young man took a shower, shaved,

and while before the mirror brushing his hair,

looking at his reflection….

The young man

looked at his upper torso and

at his deeply tanned face, and,

unlike his wife who thought she looked

drawn and haggard;

needing all the confidence he could muster

on this day: Damn, the young man thought,

 I’m looking pretty good!

Actually his evaluation was pretty much correct.

To be continued

I like the way you are building up the confidence of the young man in your story; may we hope for a reconciliation with his wife and family? I will stay tuned for further episodes. Good write, Mark. P.S. I left a message/review for you on my latest poem. Check it out.

Our heroes are revealed for all they are, the final flash of a dying star, for with this pen I do they mar, with hopes I leave ‘em all a scar.
