Misanthrope Whales

And who would blame them
As their international waters turn red
With Japan’s souless ignoring of laws
Feeding but a corrupted marketplace
Their goal
Befriended by Sea Shepherd tenacity
Four vessels prowl the Antarctic Ocean
Acting as surrogate parents
While defenseless fellow mammals
Roam unknowingly their plight
Whales innocently swim too close
Japanese harpoon vessels take up the chase
Cheering the kill of mammalian conscience
Dragged aboard the Nissin Maru factory ship
Where dismembered spirits cast aside
Unsalable parts become but ocean scraps
Still while some dine on endangered species
Knowing their palates savor illegal catch
Captain Watson
Fifteen years the agonizing guardian
Patrols the waters
Seeking the Nissin Maru
The slaughterhouse afloat
To antagonize,
Hurl stink bombs
Drag line to foul propellers
And save the whales
And we might wonder
What these intelligent creatures
Must be sensing of man
The often-cruel sentient species

Japan is a small island surrounded by the sea. The culture has heavily depended upon the sea for food since its beginning. With a burgeoning population after World War II and a massive growth of technology, including fishing technologies, the Japanese have gone from the regional fishing they engaged in prior to World War II, to massive operations throughout all the oceans. Their taste for sushi and spread worldwide, and is threatening several tuna species from overfishing.
The Japanese prefer whale meat over Kobe beef. Until their culture changes, the Japanese to continue to over fish and over hunt the seas.

So very sadly, it is not only the Japanese who continue to kill off Earth's Endangered Species, it is also our own government. Our own so called 'leaders' are now gutting our hard fought for 'Endangered Species Act' and our nation has joined this atrocious Killing Frenzy - all in the name of profit. And I now sadly wonder if any magnificent God-given creatures will be left for future generations to behold.
