A prosetry exploration into the long term contamination of any toxic experience. (Painting by Paul David Bond)

Poem Artwork
Mind Rape
by Odin Roark

You led me on a walk down complacency lane,
even as you tried to boil life down to borderline depravity
with inverted pleasures spinning
your windmill of puscasious delirium.

Lashing me to the mast of your storm drenched perversions,
a venal duty of cleansing you called it,
you commanded an army of deception,
awash with the residue of soft-shell Cyclops,
who like needle-eyed centaurs
roiled an eternal molten blitzkrieg
of your brine and slithering lies,
assaulting my simple cell
of gauze shrouded tenuity.

With duplicitous audacity,
you infested my flicker-housed meditations
of Eisenstein, Wells, Fellini, and Godard,
obliterating the sanctity of my inner-sound stage
with the avaricious hum of your locust wings
devouring more, more, and more.

You dared infect my Louvre of life's images
with hallucinogenic hyperbole,
turning my sanctuary into a mustard green madhouse
of singed and scorched wormholes
threatening the nitrate Gurus of my digital archives.

And like those long-tailed monstrous carnivores of long ago,
you demanded why I should disallow your orgiastic frenzy,
why I battled your predatory nature to turn my nourishment
into rancid desserts for you demented palate,
reduce me to a hummingbird locked in the jaws of your Neolithic appetite,
feeding the primeval ooze of your legacy's tar pits?

My Pollack inspired synapses
clung to Sartre-orchestrated lullabies of consciousness
as you threw your consuming fireballs of seductive passion,
eventually resulting in the sunrise of slumber's revolution,
an awakening with a mud honey taste of gelatinous waste.

But that wasn’t enough,
for you decided to inflict graffiti
upon my life cave of hieroglyphs,
my grotto of submerged etchings
my cacophonous echoes of the past.
Only to find the debaucherous priming
of sweet cream on your prepared temptation
spoiled into maggot infested delectos
as the traumatization of my awakening sunk in,
eventuating the final decree in my favor,
handed down by a frenzy-friendly all female jury.

The twelve angry ladies spoke
and your war drums are now muffled,
your insurgency stifled,
your psycho drama now behind the blood-drenched
curtains of yesterday’s final act.

Even as you tried to vandalize the poems of my dreams,
know their redeemed safety is now sequestered in a fervent forever,
for you failed to banish the peace that has become a protective aura,
filling my smiles with delectable savories of the mind.

Beware, if ever again you trumpet an arrival,
the sweep of my lessons learned will disarm you,
rendering vacuous your attempts to once again
violate my mind.

A deliciously rich poem, perhaps a bit too obtuse for some but festooned with a treasure chest of lexiconic trinkets for the rest. Your implacable mantra shines through in the next to last stanza.

Wow, quite a rendition! I do recall some of those influences you are writing about, but I fail to see how they corrupted my mind when I read or saw their work on film or in plays. But I remember that night at the midnight movies where the shorts were graphic and the memory was long, especially when the short, "The Flaming Creatures," became the main attraction.

I agree with Richard and his detailed analysis that you apparently had some instance or instances that have influenced your thinking along these lines for many years. Unless you're just pulling our legs.

I guess I'm glad I had my mind corrupted Behind the Green Door by the Ivory soap girl rather than have gone naïvely to church all these years.

Ron

PS. Ed, thanks for the definition… I wondered, too.

I ran a Google search on "puscasious" and it returned "see Mind Rape

A great purge. This must of felt wonderful to write. This cathartic tour-de-force of mysteriously directed phraseology was like the clanging of steel in battle and clearly shows this reader the writers desire to use language (at times) as a sword to establish territory. With your fierce use of heinous, grotesque, frightening, and bizarre imagery it seems almost as if you are fighting demonic forces in the spirit realm with your intellect.

IMO there is a certain kind of unpredictability in this piece that lends itself well to the gist of it. Your brief explanation: "long term contamination of any toxic experience", seems to want to leave the premise of the piece hidden and open to personal interpretation. But the use of 'any' in your abbreviated overview is quickly juxtaposed by the more direct use of 'you and 'yours' in each stanza which then makes it more directed at an individual, or individuals, than circumstance.

The reader is left with the feeling that the writers inner-sanctum has been compromised, or violated, or perhaps challenged unexpectedly, on more than one occasion throughout his life and there is lingering rancor, anger, and indignation associated with all these experiences. Sometimes what we think has been cleared from us needs only a trigger-point to bring it back to the surface. I have always loved when that happens to me. It quickly clears the air of any delusions that may be interfering with what we so honestly try to accomplish. This made my day.

The insipid sound of fools clashing like angry waves on a mind that is tired and needs the sounds of Spring.
