Hourglass Becoming...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

(A revisit) With N Korea recently detonating a hydrogen bomb underground causing a 6.3 earthquake, one is left wondering how will this latest sabre rattling end? What lies ahead? (Image by Pinterest)

Poem Artwork
Hourglass Becoming…

Tide-speckled beach,
yesterday’s once piercing shrapnel,
the cutting short of breath in wars past,
now but aggression’s respite
preparing the next iteration.

Why now do the dunes arouse our sorrow,
their feathery grass-mounds unraveling,
making conscious our history's nightmare
once of dormant pause?

Why this seeming inevitability,
this place,
this threat of everything lost,
self-annihilation,
rendering a planet anchor-less to drift?

Life reluctantly reclines among the grit of a tide’s will,
erosion’s remnants riding the sea’s foamy edges,
seeing the yesterdays rushing ashore,
becoming more layered echoes
of Nature’s disappointment.

History, our inherent perpetual motion,
continues to repeat yet more warfare,
causing Time’s patience to dwindle
waiting out the hour glass becoming
a minute glass,
a second glass,
an empty glass.

You convey much, so much, in this write! If mankind as a whole could only see the stupidity of his ways and what a fool he makes of himself!! OH..........................!!!!!!

Love ya!

The lessons of the 20th century have not been learned. Most millenniums don't even know very much about that history, they are so focused on their lives and trying to, "make it." You make a good case for inevitability in your poem of the hourglass. There is also the doomsday clock that moves back and forth to midnight as a watchdog for self annihilation.

Only the future will tell. I'll wait to see, but won't let it happen without my kicking and screaming to, "Stop the insanity!"

I fear what lies ahead is not going to be pleasant. Sadly the heart of man is wicked beyond all comprehension; as Earth's history bears out. Your insights paint a dire scenario, Odin. I'm sure those bombastic tests are pissing off all the antediluvian creatures being held in dark subterranean chambers. Enjoyed. Peace... r

Also sprach Zarathustra. The problem is not Nature or the world, but humanity itself.
