Becoming Dust

The corruption of the best things gives rise to the worst. David Hume (Image by Pugliese)

Poem Artwork

Becoming Dust

Weeds of corruption

infiltrate the roots of life’s garden,

bringing with it the residue

of deception’s poisonous fog.

Irrigation of purity is becoming

but a mirage of dwindling oases,

where thirst for the genuine,

rapidly succumbs to dust storms of fraud.

Would that Nature could control humanity’s

seeming obsession to create storms of lies and duplicity,

rather than nurturing climates that make for harvesting truth.

Power and money will not prevent

our sinking beneath the moral soil of good

into the hidden ever-ready quicksand of deception,

pulling us further into the deep and soundless

quake of instability and darkness,

that place where but dust survives.

Something permanent to look forward to, Odin. But not just yet. I still have a couple of nano-compounds in the game.

You have described our age perfectly in your signature style. Well done, Odin.

. . . and dust as we all know (leastwise I hope we all know) that dust is the corruption of desire, and hopefully better days ahead. Morality, dust withholds life to a standstill..
