Fragrent Musings

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Remembering many a night when poetry writing was fixed on napkins, I found myself thinking how fortunate I was in refusing to throw in the towel, knowing staying alive was knowing the fragrance of hope comes in many forms.

Fragrant Musings

What glides before him,
This movement of grace
Inducing memory
Of fragrant presence?

Memory brings…

Flowers of long ago
Wafting through light leaks,
Cracks in the closure
Where mind’s nakedness
Continues to roam.

Humidity…

Aroma’s constant friend
Visits often this heart of romantic wanderings.

Whether at a seashore’s bamboo bar,
Manhattan’s concert in the park,
Or a rainy night in Vermont,
Even the Mr. Coffee maker’s burnt offerings,
All stand attentive to awakening’s dew point.

Today…

Amidst the clarity of a drifting’s past
His desert café of cooling coffee and unlit cigarettes,
Neon flashes spark the mirrors,
“Open 24 hours”.

Such recalls the never sleep,
Always the ready heart and mind,
Continues to gather bouquets,

old and young.

Today the aroma of standing coffee,
Where spoon and cream remain partners,
Where life’s many aromatic remembrances

Infuse wanderings of the reflecting pen,

Knows time feels endless…

As it will every day of his remaining consciousne

Yes, Odin! It is this "fragrance" of "hope" that finds all the cracks and shines on through! Hey! I've written on coffee filters. I "say" that as you have me wanting coffee and I remember doing that! I enjoyed your message!

Love ya!

I don't recall ever writing anything on a napkin. But understand that creative people always have. Perhaps I was just not creative enough. But I do recall coffee, particularly in the morning, giving me the boost I needed to get out into the world, not jot down musings on paper. And another thing that fueled me was bacon. But I understand the motivation behind coffee and cigarettes. The combination of caffeine and nicotine allowing one to muse well into what should have been, sleep.

I rarely ever make a suggestion about anyone's composition.
It is what it is. But my need for closure tells me your
final line would read: "As it will every day of my remaining
consciousness." It was always a first person poem. It is too wise,
too personal, and too revealing to remain "his."
