Honor Flight

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For those who climb, or even take on a strenuous hike to one’s innate ability, there usually comes a time when one is confronted with a mountainous obstacle that speaks its own language. This is but a collective experience with same. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Honor Flight

With morality's wings outstretched

currents carry the nature of man’s eyes upward

rising above meadowed Alpine flowering

across scree-scattered memories old

soaring above storm and cloud

coming to rest on season's memory-laden cover

Beneath truth’s talon grip

slants rusted sheets of shelter

overhanging fear-sealed windows

now but closed eyes

once open to saber edged truthfulness

What guilt lays at rest

within such fortification walls?

What flames of rightness

has this shield of fact kept kindled?

What whispered voices

have her passion-embers kept conscious?

To some

A rest stop in history

To others

An outpost of courage

To all

A rock-firm pause

reminding those who pass

eagles do soar

just as legs do climb

seeking but the calm

the windless current

where melodic vision is unabated

and chorused echoes spring infinite

where journey of mind

meets home of spirit

where acknowledgment of guilt

bodes forgiveness

If only one would admit

Such is a populous response

To a delusional speech of greatness

I watched as our president heaped praise on himself and his cohorts, taking credit for initiatives that were clearly those of his adversaries, but commandeered as part of his lie filled legacy. And top it off with anecdotal praise for individuals especially selected for their emotional appeal. I never had to climb such a heap of bullshit in my life!

That mountain is a mountain of ignorance where where people get duped, and believe the lies are the truth.

A poem that speaks to the heart of today's politics. There will be no admission and hence there will be no forgiveness, now only the coming election and hopefully an exit into the theater's wings.
