Boundless Land Mines

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- Each day brings to the forefront more evidence of inept curtailment and politicizing of this pandemic. How rudimentary the land mines of past wars seem now, as the spiked rolling mines of death are everywhere at the same time. (Painting by Olga Nikitina)

Poem Artwork

Boundless Land Mines

How insipid it’s molecular lurking

Cloaked in air dust

Finding purchase on slick surfaces

Nostrils

Lips

Hands

Viral land Mines

Our generation’s close encounter with the new kind

And the most elusive bombs of all

Credit cards

Wallet cash

Driver’s licenses

Carry along water bottles

Car and house keys

Just about anything touched

Overhead…

Smart hands dispense

Wipes

Hand sanitizers

Masks

Gloves

Space

Still…

The front-line heroes

The doctors

Nurses

Clean up people

Wear triple PPE

Triple gloves

Triple gowns

Triple masks

Risking their lives

And those of their family

And we can’t even get our President

To wear a fucking mask

This disgusting representative of our nation

Careful how you vote

Don’t let the obese land mine of the indescribable kind

Last

And last

And doG help us

Last another term?

OMG

It is interesting how the microscope image of the Coronavirus appears to be very similar to the mines that were anchored under the waterline where they couldn't be seen guarding ports and narrow waterways during World War II. I can see how you use them for your metaphor.

In the ultimate metaphor, using Donald Trump as a landmine, either slowly creating havoc by his stupid followers following his lead or his sudden implosion leading to, perhaps, an international incident as suggested by his banished staff members in national security.

If trump wore a mask, all of those "It's my right to not wear a mask." would be wearing them, plain and simple.

Historians will name this period one of greed, and lies, and insults--wrapped in deceit and defeat--dripping with humanity's blood. And underscored by the bane of loyalty to dishonor. O death, where is thy sting?
