Burrowing Deep

There are times when mistakes seem so obvious, yet such epiphanies sometime arrive too late to rectify. (Image by Dali)

Poem Artwork

Burrowing Deep

To notice Nature
Is to know the tulip's heart asks for little
Its petals upon sundown
Folding shield upon shield
Over innocence

The sun
Also of patience
Remains willing to allow
Understands clouds of coolant
Nature's roiling emotion
Occasionally needs to vent

Humans
On the other hand
Know less of endurance
Too occupied with the now
Ignorant of perfection's infinite plan

Like a child's first steps
We wobble through life's forward movement
Paying little attention to Humankind’s innate ability

To muster protective shields and strategy

Unfortunately…

Far too many become instead
Duplicitous cripples
Unaware that habits of illusion and denial
Wobble still further
Burrowing deeper
Until...

"Until..." whatever happens at that point, it's different for each of us. 'Now' is fickle. All we have is now, but now becomes past and future in one heartbeat. And then it continues to do so ad infinitum. "Duplicitous cripples" seems harsh, but honestly, deceiving others by pretending one set of feelings, but actually acting under the influence of another set of feelings, is rampant in society. To this day I still struggle with some of the stupid things I did in my yesterdays. Alas. Thank you. Thought-provoking. Peace....richard

I love the way you open this poem, with the humility of the tulip and the sun with its patience. There is so much to learn from nature if we only had the eyes and ears and nose to sense its inner message, burrowing deep as the title says.
