Breath's Final Neat Package

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

It could be argued the best way to bide one’s time is to revisit the past time. There can be so much solace through nostalgia when gifted patiently through living snapshots to the heart/mind.

Breath’s Final Neat Package

Click

Waxy paper

cartooned respite

chewy pink

bubbles small

messes big

“don't you be blowin' them

your brows be shaved

daunted mother”

silly child

Click

Driver's license

double feature drive-in

windows open

friends in next car

cuddle up seats

brown bagged cherries

stems to pull

pits to suck clean

stomach aches ignored

paper peeled straws

blowgun ammo

shot between cars

shoring up boredom

while girlfriend gazes

Jimmy Dean's red jacket

up there four stories tall

Click

Makin' it on my own

lonely brownstone

Central Park always dark

letters few

bill collectors many

pay or else

notice this

notice that

Oops

the draft is nice

they say

three squares a day

see the world

'til you don't

Dark storms

rain down shrapnel

brain entangled

sunrise runs

nature hides

evil's time

Click

Smiles

smiles

door to door

vacuum cleaners rule

used car

crazy wife

crazier life

now that's a neat package

'til it's not

Click

Jack is good

Smirnoff bad

mirrors in front

noise in back

cacophonous peanut shells below

orchestrating stubby pencil

upon napkins write

verse or prose

doesn't matter

re-wrapping

neat packages those 'til

'til glad hand extends

binds me in different wrappings

novel’s dust jacket shines

mail box stays empty

dust jackets fade

Click

Someday

an old shep will appear

dropping neat packages

for me to bag and seal

while we walk the walk

bark the talk

shuffle left

shuffle right

finding straight ahead

Click

Breath's final neat package

patiently waits to be wrapped

but until then

How poignant a story told.
I felt every stage of this flick through the memoires. Every 'click' resonated in my mind and produced snapshots of my own in an instant.
Compelling as always Rx

The visuals of celluloid to illuminate with light the verses of a poem. The words sparkle on the page and what a journey into the past it is.

Snapshots of life. One of your favorite themes. One is very personal. Makes me wonder if you went to war. But I could identify with some of it and not with others. But it certainly would be nice to have an "old Shep" to accompany me down by the river bank to fish in the morning or the evening when it isn't too hot.

I guess that's why they have dust jackets for novels sitting on shelves just gathering dust.

it is both clever and wise how you have written this, Odin. going down the memory lane through the images in your mind. i was hearing the camera reel and the pit stops you've taken. quite a journey.
