With Every Step I Took
Oh, I was tired and weary; My
life was filled with pain-
Family and friends has turned
away; Leaving me alone again
but...There was something 'bout
that mountain; That kept calling
out to me; In my sleep or while awake;
So I just had to see
With each step it took me higher;
the air was thin and cool-
The journey treacherous; No climber was I;
maybe...just a fool
So..I began to doubt, the voices
in my ear-
Turn back; Go back; I told myself-
the top is nowhere near
My knees they shook with spasms,
while my eyes filled with sweat-
My strength was fading quickly-
as the sun began to set
Now darkness on this mountain side,
would find me through this night-
Completely alone in thought I'd be-
and fear became my plight
The wrong step could send me crashing,
down upon the rocks below-
Death would be my certain fate-
and no one would ever know
Morning would embrace my tiredness;
at the peak of this rocky terrain-
I was exhausted; but relieved-
as peace coursed through my viens
For there upon that mountain top;
that I had climbed so high-
Stood an 'ol rugged splintered cross-
against a clear blue sky
As tears rolled down my cheeks,
I knelt there upon the stone-
It was then I knew on this journey long,
I'd not took one step alone
