Facing Getting Older With Hope!

This is a poem that reflects on how I hope to get stronger in my faith as I get older.

I listen as older adults

say how they have

lost relatives and friends

as they have gotten older

As I reflect on that reality

for my own life, I ask

how will I deal with loses

as I grow older

I realize little by little

my life will experience

many loses, and my

own body will have some

loses also, that could

be pretty depressing

Or is it?

There is no doubt that

someone you love dying

brings many painful

emotions, no matter

how much faith and

maturity you have,

but I am going to try

and see these loses

as a deeping of my love and

connection to God

You see- each person is

with us for a while, and we cherish

that time, but as each person dies

and as our body gets weaker

I think we can focus more on

how God is everything

He is really all we have

The more we realize that

I think the more we have

a deeper reunion with Him

Pretty soon when I die

I will see that everything

is stripped away now

except God and me

I will be going

to my real home with God

Does this mean we love

people less? Of course

not, it actually means

we love and appreciate them

more because we know God

sends people in our life to learn

about Him and ourselves, and it

is the goodness in each person

that brings us closer to God.

So, this is how I hope to live

my older years, knowing that

even painful loses will bring

me closer to God
