As a child, you may have been told
that you can’t draw or sing
You were told you are stupidAsked,

“Why did you do that?”
You still don’t feel like you can
do anything right

You believed them;
now you say those words to yourself
The words sink deeper and deeper

They become a part of your psyche
Then one day you meet someone
who looks at you
 

Not the you that you see,
but the real you
This person sees gifts you didn’t know you had
 

You say to yourself,
“Could this be true ?
Are there things I can do?”
 

You tried, a little at a time
You use your gift
and found out you liked it
 

Other people saw
what you could achieve
Then you tried another gift

You found challenges
and many barriers, yet you
remembered the friend who encouraged you
 

Wow! It worked; it really worked!
You created something
that came from the deepest part of you!
 

You were pleased, and sure enough,
others saw and admired your creativity
You developed a relationship with Jesus
 

You were becoming whole
You were not letting the people who said those things
when you were a child  have control of your life anymore
 

You realized that
they have problems,
and you forgave them
 

Yes, you forgave them
