Labor Day in America
Today we honor you
With a day of rest and relaxation.
With your minds and hands you grow our food
You build our highways
You transform all our materials
Into thousands of products and goods.
You advise us about our money
You help us plan for tomorrow
You attend to our legal needs
You teach our children
You make our government work better.
Without you all commerce would stop
All balance sheets would fall
All traffic would jam up into gridlock.
Around the clock you attend to our sick
You heal our wounds and our grief.
When we are hungry
You are there to nourish us
When we are tired
You take us in to comfort us and give us warmth.
You fight our battles
You defend our freedom
You are the backbone of our country
The strength of our land
You are the makers and the shakers
The doers and the givers.
Some love to blame you
For all that’s wrong about America.
But I know better
And deep down, so do they.
When we are tired, or sick, or in need
You are always there.
You ask for little yet
You give the most.
You are our strength
You are our greatest asset
You are the best that is in us
Because...you are us
And we are you.

Since I am no longer tied to a 'job' taking my time to make money to live, I will work on through. For parades, sports events, and outdoor get togethers with family and friends aren't as rewarding as working on through holidays and weekends on what I like to do--write.
