From America, with Love
The extra-long van pulled away today
And headed north toward the Chesapeake Bay
It was loaded down as it creaked and swayed
Carrying lots of love in packages that were paid
With love, kindness, and hope from the USA.
Every package had an address and a name
But no two of them were just the same
With sweaters and shirts and socks and shoes
Perhaps an appliance that a family could use
All sent with pride, not an ounce of shame.
They’re from American immigrants, one and all
With a lot of pride and standing tall
Remembering their families in far off places
Whose hopes and dreams were in their faces
A sense of sadness, a sense of awe.
An attractive young lady was behind it all
Just 100 lbs. and 5 feet tall.
With beautiful blue eyes and a winning smile
One that can be seen for at least a mile.
I’m extra proud of this precious life
And so happy to say that she’s my wife.
