This much I know as my days come and go
And I approach my moment of death
Why should I tremble in fear
As that deadline draws near
And I take in my final breath?
I’ve lived a full life with good times and strife
I’ve tasted the sweet and the bad
I’ve conquered nothing at all
Twixt the rise and the fall
But what a great ride I’ve had!
I’ve flown over the seas with the greatest of ease
I’ve seen the sun set many times
I’ve learned from the best
Forgotten the rest
While avoiding most of the crimes.
A glimpse of heaven is all that we get
As we soak up life in small bits
But that’s enough my friend
To know in the end
It’s not just about taking hits.
The pot of gold at rainbow’s end
Is more than a fanciful tale
It completes the journey
Without aid of a gurney
There at the end of the trail.
Heaven’s there to receive all those who believe
And even those that do not
I’m not here to preach
My job’s just to teach
There’s no escaping your lot.
The lights don’t go out they come on
And at last we each get to see
The mighty will squeal
Where there’s nothing to steal
The best things up there are free.
I like this poem Edward.
I like it a lot.
Because in this life, we only get one shot.
The best times of my life has been when I can share some fun with another person. These days I like to help out elderly or teach skills to youth. I don't need money to do that and that's the truth!
