I never knew exhaustion until I hit the road
And traveled miles and miles of highway
In slightly overloaded mode
The traffic was horrific
The maniacs were out
They drove with no concern for life
While skirting roundabouts.
Four lanes, six lanes, 8 lanes, 10
Each jockeying for position
You’d think that one-half second gained
Was worth the Big Transition.
Where time and tide give not a damn
About our driving skills
Still some test Fate up to the hilt
While texting new found thrills.
It’s a way of life around the world
To seek a little danger
To converge at 90 miles per hour
On friend or foe or stranger
To push the envelope to test the edge
With other people’s lives
To some it’s just a game of chicken
To see which one survives.
There’s got to be an antidote
A way to stop this madness
And let all those who want to live
Delay that day of sadness
I’m working on a blinking sign
To post for all to view
“I’m crazy old and really pissed
And I'm coming after you.”
I've watched those crazy, wild ass drivers over the years driving the freeways to and from work every day. And I've seen every kind of accident happen right in front of me or alongside.
That is the penalty we pay for driving slower these days with everyone in such a hurry multitasking as they go.
Sounds like you had a good trip warding off the nasty insects in your path. To think that back in the day I was the one cruising at 90 mph and overtaking vehicles to their surprise.
I absolutely agree with you, Edward. Sometimes I wish I had a machine gun mounted on the hood of my Taurus. What I hate almost as much are the pokey, pokey drivers who almost come to a ful stop making a right hand turn. Grrrrr!
At the heart of the eight compelling nonfiction stories and five-article appendix which make up Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah is this interesting question: What would your life mean if you were living someone else's dream of what it should be?
