Milestones Some ruts are OK Like my annual calendar Featuring Marilyn Monroe; A sunset cruise capped by Dinner wine and dancing Out on the bay; Even all those leaves That scatter themselves In every nook and cranny Of my yard; A block party where I read my worst poem Of the year; My annual golf trip with Old friends that get Better with age; New leisure shoes; Even my health and My golf game Are improving; And who says you Can’t change the world? I see the arc of history Bending and that is Good enough; Tonight a quiet dinner At my favorite hideaway; In a world that swirls with Turmoil and hate-- Reasons to live Goals worth dying for; Half a loaf is sometimes The whole of what is Possible; And then there is the Finale— Today is my birthday And I never felt better.
