The Gift of Love

Poets write of starry nights and soft moon light
Of summer breezes and playful teases
When searching for love’s finest setting;
I find those words alluring and charming
But they never capture
How my heart leaps
And my breath stalls
When I merely think of you.

You are more than the promised kiss of Spring time
For you bring laughter and joy and
New seasons of plenty surging into my life—
You replenish my soul.

Yes those rainbows in the skies
And crashing waves along the shore
Are a pleasure for my eyes
And ears and touch and more;
But your breath upon my face
And your head on my shoulder
Transform my senses
Into an avalanche of love.

I do not wish to understand
Where or how or why
Only that you do all that.
And for those gifts that you bring
That lift my soul and make it sing
I will honor you
And treasure you
And love you
For all time.
