And we are all the better because of them.
But few of them ever command our attention by their looks
Or by the way they walk, or act, or titillate, or arouse;
They have the skills, the gifts, and the determination to show
Us what could be but the distance is far and the journey is
Beyond our reach—
They are special but unreachable.

And suddenly without notice or fanfare
A woman appears who is
Young and beautiful and talented and fearless
And nothing is ever the same.

Critics rave about her skills
Audiences swoon at her command of self and stage
Her poise is undeniable as she dazzles and smiles
She is the center of her universe and ours
We are her puppets and
She alone controls the strings

With daring and glamour and panache
And sex appeal beyond our gasps
She works her will
Effortlessly.

Could Rachmaninoff or Gershwin ever have imagined such
A visual delight would ever recreate their compositions
While holding her audience utterly and hopelessly
Spellbound?
