The Inspirers
There is a cluster of human attributes
That cling together so well
They are known to us as
Kindness, courage, understanding
Tolerance, love, and forgiveness.
How they shine!
What joy they bring!
And who can deny them
When they sparkle?
They come in all skin colors
All genders all ages
And more often than not
With a knowing look
And a smile that simply glows.
They lift my soul
From wherever it was
To a place where I have never been
But instantly recognize as
The place where I long to be
A place where I belong.
They delight in
People, places and circumstances
Because they are in the fray
Not above it.
They are our teachers and so
We rarely get to join them
Because we seek out others who
Are at our own level of development—
The flawed
The furious
The many.
It’s only a suspicion but
Deep down in my gut
I think they are really angels
Sent to pick us up each
Time we fall from grace
Without lecturing or scolding but
By their examples.
They deserve overtime pay.
Same with the nurses, they need more pay too. Nurses have hard jobs and some lead to emotional breakdowns when they become too attached to the patients that they care for and the worries and tasks that they are burdened with when caring for their patients.
A very meaningful poem!
