To Live or Die
Around the world the death toll
has topped 1 million
That is not a milestone
it is a gravestone
with too many names
to remember or
to forget.
The U.S. owns more than
20 percent of those names--
loved ones, friends, colleagues,
neighbors, veterans, children.
Make no mistake
Providence is watching:
This is our moment
to act with courage
honor and resolve
not against only a virus
but against deniers
and pretenders to knowledge
and those who seek personal gains.
We need only wash our hands
Don our masks
Keep our social space and
Act with courage or--
We can shirk our duty
Act stupid and just
Shrivel up
and die.
Do not send to know for
Whom the bell tolls...

That is not to deny that some individuals, those affected, will find it incomprehensible. We are so populous, taking so much from our earth that we are denying other creatures a place and resources to live. And once they are gone or depleted to the point we can't exploit them, we will die in numbers incomprehensible.
