Visions of Us

The power of logic, the glory of prose
The beauty of poetry that grows and grows
Embedded in language from bottom to top
Conveyors of enlightenment that time cannot stop.

We are the writers, the speakers conjoined
With style and honesty never purloined
Armed with paper, pen, and poise
With clarity and purpose rejecting the noise.

Alone with reflections, alive with our thoughts
We shatter the barriers of our can’ts and our oughts
To live to love and this above all
To cushion our honor in case of a fall.

In the coolness of evening as the sun disappears
With little between our wants and our fears
In a tapestry of magic we paint a new day
Of promise and hope in determined array.

May we join in the music that comes from the heart
When our souls arise like a new work of art
Let us give thanks for tapping the well
Where life love and courage consistently dwell.

This would make a fine tribute to the muse who enjoys waking me at 3 a.m. and nagging me into my seat before the laptop. I cuss and I fuss, but s/he is always right. Drat!

Thank You Edward
for this great piece most enjoyable reading
Very refreshing I had to forbid myself from reading and listening to the garbage being dished at us these days

Peace be with you

This is such a wonderful poem! I loved it. Gratitude for the gift of writing and for choosing writing to express ourselves, that is the joyfulness of the journey. Very well written and is deceptively light-hearted, when actually a lot of careful attention goes into rhyme and bringing one's heart and soul into the craft.

So true of those of us who write! Thanks for putting these thoughts together and sharing.

Not all poets and writers are so praiseworthy, but you certainly are with this uplifting poem of how honesty sometimes outshines greed as an affirmation of the human race.

A poem in the classic style, beautifully (and expertly) executed, full of hope and promise and telling it like it is.

Very nice, Edward, from both a mechanical and an allegorical sense! I greatly enjoyed this. Thank you. -K2

Well, Mr. Phillips, writing like this doesn't bode well with your followers who heard from you recently that you were going to bow out of posting. It goes without saying, your talent to arrange words in either poetic form or essay strategy makes our days worth waking up to a search for your new post. Did I say I'd kick you ass if you stopped? Well, I'm a size 12 and love heavy boots. Look out, my friend.

Loved this.
