Somewhere beyond the agony and the ecstasy is where our true lives begin.

Poem Artwork

Adventurous

In our quests to find answers
to timeless questions
and distill them into a sense of purpose
or joy or meaning
we must walk the walk
not merely talk the talk
nor even write the right.
We must immerse ourselves
into life
Meet with pain or strife
And try not to settle
for second best.

Our five senses illuminate
but they do not fulfill.
Experience teaches
but it does not satisfy our
greater need to know why
or connect us to
Our destinies--
To live to love
and this above all
to find the good that
we can do
and not accept a painful fall
as the end of the quest.

The road not taken
is there for those who dare
to help them find lives that vibrate
and urges that scintillate.
We need to call upon more than
friend or foe
Knowing that somewhere beyond the agony
and the ecstasy
is where our true lives begin.

A thought provoking pen about the realities of life and living. Well penned, Ed.

Life is meant for living. Better to "go for the gusto" than to molder in place.

You make here an important point. Yes, the our adventure is there to be had and many people like to travel and be adventurous. But there is a drive toward the inner adventure that takes stamina and courage, to see and then find ourselves. Perhaps that is adventure enough, to meet our destiny and the future of ourselves with determination and courage.

Beautifully stated truth about why we need adventure in our lives.

When I was younger I took every opportunity that I could to adventure. Many times alone because I could get no one else to go with me. But as aging and my paralysis increased, I had to be more patient and less adventurous. Now, I'm pretty much confined at home and have to relive my adventurous life by writing fiction.
