Don’t let me mope around,
And wish things were better than they are,
Mistakes I’ve made are passed now,
Done and dusted long and far,
Allow the friends that love me,
To love me as I am,
For I am nothing special,
Just an ordinary man,
Sometimes I make decisions,
I wish I had not made,
Allow me the gift of learning,
From mistakes like this I pray,
Allow me the understanding,
Of another persons choice,
Let me have the patients,
To listen to their voice,
As they explain the reasons,
They’ve hurt me, or I’ve hurt them,
And allow me sympathy enough,
Not to do the same again,
Let all who come to know me,
See exactly what I am,
No scholar, saint or hero,
Just an ordinary man,
A man with faults and failings,
Like everybody else,
A man who sometimes thinks too much,
Perhaps about himself,
Allow me the strength that’s needed,
To admit when I am wrong,
But when I'm right to stand my ground,
And show I can be strong,
But most of all please grant that I,
Remember who I am
From now until the day I die,
Am just an ordinary man,
