It was the third of November, cold and dark,
A chill wind blew as I walked through the park,
On my way home, just making my way home,
I remember I was thinking it’s an eerie night,
Wishing I had stayed where the lights are bright,
On my way home, Oh on my way home,
Then I turned my head and I could plainly see,
Two young men step away from a tree,
And they were acting strange, yes they were acting strange,
So I turned up my collar and I quickened my pace,
But they fell in behind me and they both gave chase,
And I was out of there, yes I was out of there,
My heart was pounding, I was so afraid,
Oh, don’t let them catch me, dear God I prayed,
I was running scared, yes I was running scared,
But they came up beside me and they grabbed my arm,
Said “do as we tell you and you’ll come to no harm”,
On my way home, on my way home,
One said “give me your wallet, if you value your life”,
His voice was angry and he brandished a knife,
I was chilled to the bone, and so alone,
Well I handed it over and I shook like a leaf,
I said, “ you got what you wanted”, and I turned to leave,
I was scared as Hell, yeah, I was scared as hell,
But they looked at each other and they started to laugh,
Hit me so hard that I fell to the path,
They said, “dead men don’t tell, no dead men don’t tell,
Well the ground was frozen and my clothes were wet,
And the crazy one yelled, “this ain’t over yet,
And he struck again, I cried through the pain,
Then he straddled my chest as I lay on my back,
The knife blade flashed in the frenzied attack,
And the grass was stained, and I fought in vain,
Because my strength was fading and I closed my eyes,
And one of them laughed, “I thought he’d never die”,
And they just walked away, yes they just walked away,
I thought of my wife as I lay there alone,
She’ll wonder why I’m late and I haven’t phoned,
And I started to cry, yes I started to cry,
I thought of my daughter, just six years old,
It’ll break her heart when she is told,
That her daddy died, and they don’t know why,
But it’s the third of November and it’s cold and dark,
A chill wind blows as I lay in the park,
Never to go home.
