A Re-Post From 2001

  They’re ready for work

 And looking their best,

What the day holds in store,

 Well, that’s anyone’s guess,

 A cat in a tree

 Or pump out a flood,

 Maybe rescue a horse

 That’s stuck in the mud,

 Or a road traffic accident,

That’s the one that they dread,

When they cut through the wreckage

To get to the dead,

 Because someone was speeding

 Or a tire blew out,

 Well, that’s what a fireman’s

 Job’s all about,

 Putting out fires

 And rescuing lives

 Before going back home

To their children and wives

  With hardly a mention

Of the lives that they save,

These heroic young men

 In the fire brigade,

 And whatever their colour,

 Whatever their race,

They’re the first one’s you call

When your house is ablaze,

  When your children are trapped

 And they’re starting to choke,

Till a fireman arrives

Through the flames and the smoke,

And he takes them to safety,

Puts his life on the line,

 Not just for today

 But time after time,

 And the fireman’s graveyard

Is filled to the brim

 Of heroic young men

From the same mould as him,

 That gave to their country

All that they had to give,

 In the hope that somebody

 In trouble might live,

So when you see a fireman

 Please try to be nice,

 Show them that we’re grateful

 For their sacrifice,

For it’s from men such as these

 That legends are made,

 Those heroic young men

In the fire brigade

I'm on board with this one. I don't put them on a pedestal quite as high as our military, only because they are well paid union workers, but they are brave men doing a worthwhile job.

You’ve done them a service with this posting. Dick

You must send this this to the local fire brigade surely they have a news letter and this should be in it...if you like I will send it as it needs to be out there.
Best wishes always
