A Tale of medievil forbidden love.

She stands at the window
of the north eastern tower.
oblivious to the sunshine,
the birds or the flowers.

Though the vision before her,
is of nature in bloom.
tears blur her vision
for she is locked in her room,

By the man she calls Father,
the lord of the land,
her offence was but loving
a low stable hand.

A handsome young fellow
filled with grace, whit and charm,
who would lay down his life
to protect her from harm.

Now forbidden forever
to even mention his name,
lest the lord and her family,
should be mared by the shame,

That a lowly born peasant,
should defile and deflower,
his lords only daughter
in his ambition for power.

Now this hamdsome young suitor
will have ambition no more,
save that death might release him
from bhis torturers claws.

For not far above him,
the love of his life
is suffering also,
aware of his plight.

For his screams carry to her,
from the dungeons below,
thus the maidens head bows
and her tears start to flow.

And she begs her creator
that his end will be swift,
and confessing their sins,
were her own and not his.

Her poor heart is shattered
by unconsoulable grief,
as her lover lies broken,
in the dungeon beneath.

And she falls to her knees
hands clasped tight to her breast,
praying for God to make this
her last breath.

Begging and pleading
as the tears leave her eyes,
that God in his mercy
will allow her to die.

But not by her own hand,
for that's the mightiest sin,
though perhaps pergatory's worth it,
if she could share it with him.

Then the portcullis opens
and her lover appears,
tortured near death
and impaled by a spear.

But torture could never
kill a love such as his,
thus he looks up at her window,
and he blows her a kiss.

And as she reaches to catch it,
as it floats in the air,
it's almost as if
God has answered her prayer,

for she reaches too far
and slips from the ledge,
plummeting seventy
feet to her death.

Landing beside
the young man she adores,
one final embrace
on the grass covered floor.

Then their souls leave their bodies
and to heaven assend,
hand in hand and forever,
and ever, Amen.

You brought tears to my eyes. How many of us can identify with this story? In the end, I was glad some love was forbidden.

All young maidens are not able to ride off their Prince Charming, as you would imply. In this case. She does but in a unique way--in death. Sad, but more realistic.

Oh, I had tears in my eyes! This poem should go down with the "Classics"!

Love ya!

You kept me immersed within the boundaries of this sad, but obvious tale. No matter it being obvious, you wrote it with a fine hand that kept me keeping on until the end. Good writing.
