I’ve read articles on true romance,
By doctors and experts, from here to France,
Giving me advice of every kind,
One says treat ‘em mean and you’ll get respect,
Another one says it’s all down to sex,
While still others believe that love’s all in the mind.
Well I’m no scholar, and that’s a fact,
But I can’t go along with that,
Because it seems to be, the blind just leading the blind,
How can someone from another place,
Know how I feel, when I look at her face?
No! They’ve no idea what love is, ‘cause she’s mine.
You see it seems to me, if they could see her lips,
Or feel her loving fingertips,
As they gently stroke a pathway through my hair,
If they could see her smile, or that look of love,
They’d know what I was speaking of,
And see there’s not a thing on earth compares.
Well they might believe in the things they say,
But that don’t concern me anyway,
Because I believe, I should treat my woman kind,
While they’ve done their tests and experiments,
On the average individuals temperament,
They’ve still no idea what love is, ‘cause she’s mine.
Their hearts have never skipped a beat,
On a rainy day, on a dusty street,
For no other reason than she was holding my hand,
And they’ve never prayed that the storm won’t stop,
Because we’re huddled together in the door of a shop,
There’s no way on earth that they could understand.
And I pity those people, whatever they’re called,
Who honestly believe that they know it all,
About loving and feelings, and the workings of the mind,
Because when all’s said and done, and their tests complete,
And they’re sitting all alone in their office suite,
They’ll still have no idea what love is, ‘cause she’s mine.
Now I could try to explain how my pulse starts to rise,
When I’m kissing her lips and she looks into my eyes,
And our breath starts coming in short but heavy shots,
And I could tell them the thoughts that go through my head,
While I’m holding her close as we lie there in bed,
But to tell the truth, I think I’d better not.
Because it seems to me, they couldn’t comprehend,
The subtle little messages that woman sends,
With every subconscious swivel of her hips,
And it would take too long for me to try to explain,
About the chemical reaction taking place in my brain,
That causes the involuntary whistle to escape from my lips.
And that’s time better spent in her loving embrace,
Savouring her lips and the way that they taste,
Or admiring the form of her legs and her shapely behind,
I could never put into words, the exact way that I feel,
And if I could they’d probably hear me but not believe it was real.
When they’ve got no idea what love is, ‘cause she’s mine.
Yes I’ve read all their articles on true romance,
And how falling in love at the very first glance,
Is probably just a crude trick of the mind,
And after reading them all, and the reading was long,
With the greatest respect, I can tell you they’re wrong,
And they’ve no idea what love is, well not mine.
Taking a break, I just saw an "expert" selling creams on The Talk show on TV. She had creams for morning, nighttime, and in between… As though somehow, the magic of romance would spring forth from using these creams. The audience, 99% women, cheered loudly when being told that they were given a sample (probably worth on the order of $100 for $10 worth of ingredients).
Yes, they don't know what love is… But you sure do, because I felt many of the feelings you describe so well in this country song you've written that needs to be broadcast across the world yearning for love. Kudos on another great one.
I've found in my life that most "experts" are those who have learned big vocabulary words that could be said in much simpler down to earth words and they throw them around to make it sound like they are so smart. I believe in "keep it simple stupid" as they say. I laugh when a news programs interviews " experts" on business or whatever area and all they've done is get a degree from some school. When they run a business for 20 years in the real world, then come back and be interviewed.
Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
Love Is Myth
True Love Is Compassion...

so we're not alone,
nut as for understanding love,
we're on our own.
