I am the unknown entity,
Your greatest minds have studied me,
Yet the best of them are unable to explain,
What I am or where I知 from,
They guess, but they are often wrong,
For there was nothing here the day I came.

And what there is now, you owe to me,
For I am the unknown entity,
And I take many, many different forms,
I知 liquid, solid and a gas,
An intangible force, an unseen mass,
And I decide what comes to be the norm.

I知 the darkness that surrounds you,
The amazement that astounds you,
And the emptiness you feel while you池e alone,
I知 the guilt you feel while doing wrong,
The joy you feel when you belong,
And each emotion you have ever known.

I知 the thing that makes your heart beat faster,
From close desire or near disaster,
And what makes you feel both anger and remorse,
I知 that chemical reaction,
That leads to sexual attraction,
And the reproductive circumstance, of course.

I知 everything you値l ever need,
I知 love, hate, generosity and greed,
I知 winter, summer, autumn and the spring,
I知 everyone you値l ever meet,
In country park or city street,
I知 mammal, fish and bird upon the wing.

I致e existed longer than you壇 think,
Yet I can be extinguished in a blink,
Just to reappear in another time and place,
I知 the hair that grows upon your head,
I知 every word that was ever said,
And I inhabit land and sea and maybe space.

I知 more precious that a Sultan痴 wealth,
More precious even than yourself,
Yet so often I am wasted, wantonly,
Or am stolen on another痴 whim,
For religion, race or colour of skin,
Or to fulfil somebodies evil fantasy.

I知 a gift, but to some, a curse,
I could be better, or far, far worse,
Depending on your personal point of view,
I知 every song and every rhyme,
Every good deed and every crime,
I知 those people over there, and I am you.

Should I go on, or have you guessed?
Without me you壇 die I would suggest,
As would everybody else you know,
You know my name; you致e often heard it,
It痴 me or death, and though some preferred it,
Compared to me, death can be somewhat slow.

Now there痴 no riddle concealed within this verse,
No cunning code, you must rehearse,
Just logic, I assure you will suffice,
For I am them, and I am us,
My identity should now be obvious,
I am the unknown entity, called life.

Ah yes, that unknown entity. I confess my guess was continuity or renewal, but same thing really, superficially so simple and yet when studied, so ineffable.

What a wonderful revelation beautifully rendered in a poem. Life certainly is a wonder that supports us all and should be cherished for what it does for us. The unknown should not be feared or despised. The unknown should be something that we wish to know more about. Fortunately, in this century we are learning more and more about everything I had such a rapid rate and debunking old myths as well. Unfortunately, some people have a great deal of trouble adjusting to new information.
