It’s just another stitch in life’s rich tapestry,
Just another thing that could go wrong,
Just another cord, that shouldn’t be there,
Not really bad, but enough to spoil the song.

A detail perhaps that may have been forgotten,
Or a part misplaced and somehow overlooked,
That half-pence of tar that’s going to sink the vessel,
And waste all the time and energy you took.

It’s those little things, of seeming unimportance,
That accumulate, quite unexpectedly,
To ruin all your hopes, dreams and ambitions,
And form another stitch in life’s rich tapestry.

It maybe something that you said while in a quarrel,
Or something you did to someone in the past,
A favour that you did by way of kindness,
That has suddenly come back to bite your arse.

For it’s said, no good deed ever goes unpunished,
And so often throughout life that’s proved to be,
Where things outside of your control, conspire and cajole,
To form another stitch in life’s rich tapestry.

Some people call it fate and some misfortune,
While others blame their Gods, their friends or foes,
Some blame the circumstance, for the fact they never stood a chance,
But the truth is, of course, that no-one really knows,

Why the best laid plans of mice and men are thwarted,
Though each detail is laid out meticulously,
Yet it’s failure, not success that’s often courted,
Due to an infernal stitch in life’s rich tapestry.

Call it what you will, it makes no difference,
That’s how it is and how it will always be,
Things go wrong at the most inconvenient moments,
But it’s just another stitch in life’s rich tapestry.
