A Going Home Surprise

"I want to help you
Find your way",
My pre-teen Kathy,
Said that day,
She was holding a sad,
Scared, wild-eyed kitten
In the palm of her hand
.
It looked like a mitten.
Kathy often found strays
That were outside their bounds.
But she got them back home
Without too much lost ground.
Only this time was different
We were further away
On the road going home
And this little stray
Was not normal and usual
Not active at all.
Just lost and alone
A bit of grey fur.
So messed up and frightened
No reason to purr.
Kathy knew how dangerous
It could be
When a kitten like this one,
Filled with fleas,
Only whimpered, "Meee-ow", so pitifully.
She wondered
If this tiny one
Would even survive
A trip to the Vet's
When she begged me to drive
As quickly as possible
To ensure this poor bit of fluff
Could stay alive.
So, along with my pocket book,
A shortcut we took,
Hoping Doc Flavia
Would take a look.
And yes, when we got there
As you can imagine
Our Vet prescribed nutrition
AND flea AND worm medication.
It took a while
For the tiny one to mend,
And we weren’t sure
Just how it would end.
But now, glad to say,
With weight gain
And a bath,
This grey little fluff ball
Has recovered at last.
So, now you must have
Just an inkling or two
Of what happened next,
And I’ll tell you it’s true .
Kathy looked at her "Momm-eee",
And posed her request,
I then realized this little one
Was more than a guest.
So now it’s been two years,
With this little kitten.
She is all sweetness and purring
And we call her “Mitten”.
With this little fur ball,
The fun never ends.
She is now Kathy’s
And they are best friends.
lovely, glad she found her forever home
Thank you Ann, for sharing this inspiring verse.
