Patches of Snow

by Ann Marie Hannon — Read all 4 poems by Ann Marie Hannon

I sweet yearning entry about life and love.

Saturday, March 24, 2018

Poem Artwork
Crocuses greeting the day’s new Spring light

Makes me think u will somehow return.

They pop up so clean, like shiny new dimes;

It's why I remember and yearn.

I'm sorry I couldn’t speak and instead I just grinned,

As you kissed me; without issue, or sin.

I wanted to cry, “Don’t you want to take me away?”

And that’s how my memory is trimmed.

Is it only our dalliance in youth that must prance

Too close to the hearthstone of truth?

No, I think it’s the memories we have that provide

The strength to stay close to our roots;

So maybe with time gracious God will just grant

The one, last final date we missed.

It’s in Spring when I wait for that time to emerge

When we’ll mirror ourselves in that wish.
