Earn thy Wings

I wrote this poem I believe about 1990. I had just graduated from a proffesional flying school, and I was hopefully awaiting my 1st flying job.

To earn thy wings, is to be thy whole life for some, perhaps not much to some it seems. To me it is my whole life as of now, for others it could be more much later. As for now my dream is coming true for me, as I've always wished for, yes I'm living it now.

To earn thy wings, silver upon the height of white capped clouds, to soar the winds with the eagles on high. It's a great feeling to be in total control, T.U.C., as we use to agree. For we would soar upon high, and even spin down without a sigh.

To earn thy wings, tis be of great accomplishment to me, and to boldly fly to heights to where the air is still. To just be among the heavens is almost Holy as thy beauty goes, to just glide with the sparrows, and to take the sights in with all might.

I've not flown much in my life and this gives me a wonderful sense of the what it feels like to fly. Still I'm not sure what the experience of earning one's wings is really like. I'm legally blind so I can't fly ever so I'd like to know what it is like to fly. Good emotions reflected here though.

Ah, can identify. I was working on my pilots license when I developed vertigo along with Meniere's Syndrome. Now airlines don't even like to see me coming. Yet I traveled for years on international flights.

A good poem of your experience.
