Like a child
I fell into your arms
and told you what my heart concealed.
Like a child
I clung to you, afraid
that you would leave me with my tears.
Like a child
I sat down on the floor
and cried away the things that hurt.
Like a child
I hid myself away
until it felt safe coming out to see.
Like a child,
I watched with wonder
those who smiled for real and didn't cry.
Like a child,
I leaned back on you,
before I tried to stand alone,
I swear I tried it on my own
and then fell back onto the floor
like that's where fools like me belong
and thats where fear like mine belongs
and that's where I crouched in the quiet dark
and silence of the peaceful park
apart from one lone broken sound
of a fool-girl crying on the ground.

Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.
South Baltimore serves as the backdrop for this gripping story of three brothers leading very different lives but joined forever by the secrets of a painful family past.
