Who can number your children my Lord?
We are the stars in the sky,
The sand on the shores.
The gentle drops of dew
On a misty Autumn morning.
We are mighty in number,
And vast indeed.
But I give thanks to You my Father
That when I am weary,
And in times of sorrow.
When my head hurts with worry,
And my heart aches with passion.
When I am brought to my knees
In the presence of You my Father.
When I seek Your comfort and wisdom.
When I need to be loved,
And raised up again
As on the wings of eagles,
I am, to You, as an only child.
For I share Your love
Yet it is not diminished.
A million voices do not distract You
From every word of my heart and soul.
You know not only my name
But number even the hairs of my head.
And though who can number the saved
You would have done it all –
Just for me.
As I dwell in the richness of Your love my Father
May I inherit the fullness of You
As if an only child.
That all I meet might know in me
The full depth of You
Our only Father.
