RENEWAL

Quiescence
Stills the mind
Like frost
Hovering in the air
Soundless
A niche of solace
Where thoughts
Cannot draw distorted scenes
Or mar the peace of
Dreamless sleep.

Awakening
Hones the mind
Like sunrise
Spreading light
To push away the solitude
Gauging thoughts
With vigilance
To embrace sounds
Sorrows, and the joys of
Living

A VAMPIRE’S LAMENT

To hold soft blooms
That brush the breasts
Those sun touched mounds
Reflecting grains
Of sea-washed sand
As midday waters gentle
Splashing waves caress
You in the light of day.

And I must wait
While velvet petals wither
To the darkness prowls
Devouring warm
And glimmering visions
Of your sunbathed body
Gleaming softly
In the light of day.

Why am I doomed
To obscure nighttime’s
Hoary gloom of
Shadowed hideaways
Impeding dreams of
Touches spurring
Passion’s rousing glow
Within the light of day.

Why must I stay away?

THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

A stalking lion, untamed and hungry,
Devouring change
In ravenous appetite---at times a beast spurring
Wars and rivers of tears---

At times serene,
Yet unyielding in
Sharpening claws on the carpet of intellect,
Testing, inventing, exploring and growing.

Streaking through the sky
Leaping to walk on the moon---
This aged king will
Relinquish the throne when the tiger
Penetrates the portal of space to seek out prey
In the jungles of the universe.

A WORD THAT RIDES THE GIFTED WINDS

Music
Inspiring word
Spurring the harvest of symphonies
Rhythms and lyrics
That sing
The songs of life

Music
Timeless word
Shifting sounds
With chameleon respite
Quiescent pause
Moving melodies
Through the ages

Music
Healing word
Restoring life with sanguine voices
Soothing sounds
And lyrical massage
Of wounded hearts

Music
Savored word
Whetting appetites
Dispensing nourishment
With nectars of sound
A mellifluent banquet
For the soul

ROCKY MOUNTAIN BUGLER
Elegantly striding midst
The brittle sounds
Of needle drift
From spruce, fir and pine
Into a clearing
Near a lake with
Peaks portrayed
In glimmering hue
And framework
Shades of white and blue
He lifts his mighty head
With antlers crowned
Across his back
Emitting sounds
That echo through
The mountain vales
Announcing he is king
And this is his domain.
