They fought in many wars for freedom...
From the Revolutionary War to the Civil War...
From World WarI to World War II to the Korean War...
From the Vietnam War to the present war far from home...
And every other war fought for freedom and peace...
Many lives have been lost here and on foreign soil...
A field of red poppies covers Flanders Field...
Where many fallen brave soldiers, our heroes...
Lie in a foreign land so far away from home...
And, in many other lands all around the world...
A rice field, a harbor, a sunken ship, or a desert...
They went to serve a country they were so...
Very proud of and to make the world a better place...
For their mothers, fathers, sister and brothers...
Sons and daughters, grandchildren and all of us...
Some who went to wars, sometimes, more than one...
And, lived to come home, never came home with...
The innocence they left with, some came home scarred...
The unsung heroes not quite willing to accept the title...
Of hero, to them, they did what they were supposed to do...
But, they all are heroes each and everyone of them who...
Fought, are still fighting, or gave their lives for their country...
We give them a day of remembrance and a parade...
And, when I see a child's balloon, be it red, white or blue...
Escape into the sky, I imagine that it is going to one of...
The many fallen heroes no longer with us, but in the heavens...
Collecting them, in bunches, for the future when the ones...
They left behind will join them in the heavens someday...
And, then, to see their brothers and sisters in arms saluting them...
And, the country they served thanking them for their sacrifices...
With the band playing in the background the music of America...
I imagine I can hear the singing voices of our heroes on this day...
Rest in Peace each and every one of you! And, to those still serving...
