Again, my behavior is temperamental;
It merely indicates that I'm a romantic,
Not a conceited prig who now likes and
Then dislikes what is known as Life,
And then proceeds to justify
What is genuine in him.
That is just as well, for I must take
Some sort of attitude toward lifetime
To justify myself as an intelligent man.
I grope for reasons, and begin to tell
Some little anecdotes, trifles of life
Or casual words of conversations. . .
Telling some things of importance,
I make myself a philosopher and
Become, with great equanimity,
Either our life's implacable critic,
Allowing nothing good for it, or
Else it ardent and romantic admirer.
Such generalization is rather silly indeed.
But that is how my opinion is formed and
Expanded all over the world, and it is unavoidable.
Then I set about arguing with others;
Some always come out from the argument
Supremely satisfied of their rightness
And self-assured that they have an opinion of life.
A rather unique look at how a critic of life operates. Quite different from your usual poetry and quite different from the poetry of others. Interesting to read.
Let's leave it to the journalists to skim the surface of the water for gleams of light; but leave it to the poet to dig deeper to unearth unexpected delight.
How do you sum Life up? Everyone's life has a different path. It only matters to the one who is walking his/her own path to justify what is right and what is wrong. Other people's opinions are a dime a dozen. Not worth pursuing. If people need to play shrink, then go open up a shrink office, some people who are stupid enough would want to pay for a someone whom they think is a professional, but only they tell the shrink their life stories and the shrink would tell it back to them with the service being paid.
The shrink doesn't know any of your life stories unless you tell them. They are getting paid to tell it back to you.
