Poem Artwork

THE AFTERBIRTH

by Judy Joy Jones

Last night i painted

and destroyed

my apartment

Carpet stained

turpentine aroma

so strong

my head split in two

Hands feet and hair

multicolored spectacle

Even destroyed

two other paintings

in the process

This birth

was wild violent

and impossible

but born it was

Didnt give a damned

for cleanliness

security deposits

or my health

No this baby

came thru me

powered by

the spirit world

And like

the worst hurricane

turned all around it

into the stoneage

Im looking

at this painting

hanging on my wall

smooth and beautiful

smiling back at me

I gave it life

and it took mine

I'm glad you posted this poem written from your passion. That painting, like your others, generally of real life persons–yourself?–has an ethereal, misty, yet very colorful aura to it.

I look forward to more poems like this and more of your paintings.

An interesting exploration of passion, compulsion, and sacrifce. We often set aside or abandon the cost of creation, be it good or bad needs to express. The process, just as 9 months in childbearing is a necessary cost/process, the end product is a testement to practicing one's purpose, ones sense of authenticity. Your peace speaks to all of the creative wills that are not hesitent in carrying out their needs to express. I've been working on a piece for some time now and may post it soon. Treasured Mishaps. It too looks into a similar world of what price? Perhaps, you were not destroyed, you were reborn?
