This is a poem about socially accepted rules of engagement and how one can feel stifled by them.
Much is said in cultivation,
Shaollow words are spent with seed.
Spouting vows between the sheets,
'Of course I love you baby,'
Here is my admonishment,
Commitment breeds dependency.
This sepulchre I designed,
Where walls of doubt incessantly shrink.
A tomb which dims with every glance,
Yet here I sit alone and think.
Prognostication is a bitch,
Living with Cassandra's curse.
To know before events unfold,
The signs are indisputable.
Predictions based on things I've done,
Games I've often played and won.
So Dilemma, consort of Quandary,
Why does ambivolence prevail?
A heart divided cannot love,
Ergo romance is doomed to fail.
It's strange to thirst and then to drown,
Deployed into the sultry water.
Petrified I couldn't swim,
But in these depths I belong.
A shark of love once was I,
Domestic nets now thwart my flow.
That I should drink this ocean dry,
And hunt the seas I used to know.
