Peace and Spirit

Peace quietly taps on our souls like an old friend

     Dropping by to visit unannounced

We open the door ever so slightly to see who’s there,

     To capture the fairy dust that might fall upon our shoulders.

We hush it inside; let it wrap us in warmth

     And then feast on its blessings.

Peace enters our beings in many forms

      The smile of an old man, the laughter of children

      The soothing notes of an old hymn,

      The consoling hug of a friend.

Peace hangs from the trees like autumn colored leaves

   Dropping unexpectedly in our paths.

Peace falls from the sky in snowflakes

   And piles deep in drifts of snow.

Peace licks our cheeks with puppy kisses

   And fills the air with chocolate evenings.

Peace touches us with baby-soft skin and newly shaven faces.

Peace stretches across faces of young and old

    In keyboard smiles and abiding quietly in teenage grins.

Peace comes in syllables and phrases from spirit-filled souls,

    From teachers who share what they’ve learned,

       What they’ve felt and what they hoped.

Peace tickles our ears with music in quiet, soothing notes,

 vibrant, present melodies, magical beats, pure voices, and crackling strings.

Peace nudges our souls in quiet prayers.

Peace lulls us to sleep with billowy soft pillows

   And old quilted comforters and warm bodies.

Peace tucks me in with dreams and visions for the future.

The picture is larger than us.

We have to stop focusing so much on ourselves

   Do the work, be healed,

And then move on.

The world needs our help!

I relish the peace I invite in each day

I pray that my arms are opened wide enough

To embrace others in their journey

 For a peaceful, spirit-filled life.
