Interestingly, a connection with Alzheimer’s sufferers was found in this poem a couple of years ago, after its initial posting here. I was honored to receive a request from an Authors Den reader from the United Kingdom. She wanted to use this poem in a research paper she was writing about Alzheimers patients. Sadly, I can no longer locate her university’s name, her name, or her exact topic, as I have carelessly misplaced our correspondence.

disconnected
a leaf caught in the wind
cast out by the tree
driven from the land
adrift and alone
tomorrow beckons
but without power
I am trapped in today
