Sleeping Bear Dunes
the wind
whispers sifting
shifting soft streams
of sliding s a n d gliding
s a n d swirling in s w i f t ly
whipping a g i f t of frivolous
s p o r e s seeping into the pores
of every poured drifter who wanders
unwary e n t i c i n g toes buried in sun
washed white grains it summons s w e e t
strains out of childish play an inane serenade in
silly shrill s q u e a l s such delicious s o f t peals
s n e a king snickering l a u g h s amidst challenging
g a f f s from scavenging g u l l s scoring lost souvenirs
s l y l y ravaging holes in s o u l -stealing pride as each
downward ride sends more s a n d shifting and s i f t i n g
and drifting and s t r e a ming as s l i d e r s slip into dreaming
soon blissfully scheming to finally s u r r e n d e r to old mother
bear who’s always there w a t c h i n g awaiting her small island
cubs s a n d-worn and weary s u s p e n d e d i n t i m e
Be always safe,
Karen
