We are not weeds

A commentary on the ever growing unemployment figures

Monday, February 2, 2009

We are not weeds

Once upon a distant time
another place another world
a family came into being
born not of blood but circumstance

a weary crew had sprouted needs
they were too few to fill

and one by one their call was heard
and one by one the kin-ship grew

and every one had purpose
and purpose fueled pride

and pride shone through like polished teak

It was a good journey
a good ship.

But as the years and decades passed
the captain thought he spotted weeds
rotting through his precious hull

and so he pulled them
one by one

until even flowers failed to bloom.

Excellent metaphoric description of a very real problem. Thanks for sharing.

A perfect and powerful metaphor, Debra, and so well written.
Good luck you, and I'm sorry about the company friend you wrote
about in the other post. -gene.

A most apt and timely write, Debra. How can there be unemployment when there is so much to be done? Just think of the aging and decaying infrastructure. It's no different here in Canada. This is proof that the economic/financial system has never worked for the well-being of the great majority of this planet's inhabitants. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Love and peace,

Regis
