What We Have Lost

When we slow down to see the seconds instead of the days, life will return.

I love warm spring days and the fresh smells of the morning.

Like laundry hung out to dry, carrying flowery smells as I rake

up winter’s leftovers.

Times of reflection, introspection, and calibration of thoughts

bring understanding to fleeting hours.

I wonder why life has changed our thinking? We have sped

up the clock and no longer do seconds nor minutes count.

Time is lost at the dinner table mainly because that doesn’t even

exist anymore.

We pass on by the little things in life as if they are meaningless

beggars out to steal from us.

Our life has become narcissistic in a fashion and we fail to allow

others to glean from who we are.

I slow down, take stock of hearts, souls, and minds.

I watch as the first carpenter bees of the season fight for the

chance to once again bore into my logs.

Their drooling buzzing rhythm keeps my attention.

Attention to true time, evolved from the mundane to explode

in the vibrant life that we should all live.

Yet, we choose to run, to worry, and to refuse to let life pass on by.

Make seconds count, not just hours or days.

There is life to live and to explore. We have lost our will to explore

all facets of our natural world.

I love nothing better than laying under a tree gently swaying,

eyes closed, soft music rocking in the background of my life,

cold beer at hand and the scents of hundreds of blooms filling me.

Filling me with a captured essence I never wish to give up.

Filling me with seconds of thought and enduring contemplation

of what I will see or smell or touch next.

Filling me with a greater sense of love for those who touch my life.

Bringing greater satisfaction as I look deep into eyes like mine.

What we have lost? Ah, what I have lost, yet what shall I gain?

Times of reflection, introspection, and calibration of thoughts
bring understanding to fleeting hours.- What came to my mind, alignment/balance of thoughts~
Time at the dinner table, WE/I demand it atleast 1 day a wk! as family! Usually it's SAturday! or Friday night! Which is ok with me, to smile, chat and share! or laugh... I look forward to it! and they do too, it shows in the sweet comments offered! and food passed around!
I love your intense thoughtful poem Randy! Again, I am sorry I haven't been here in awhile, no real reason- I miss reading and knowing your heart too, my fault...
watch as the first carpenter bees of the season fight for the
chance to once again bore into my logs. <----- Love this! I watched for almost an hr. a family woodpecker (visits the same tree every season and almost the same area too) I heard the knockin' and I came callin'- sounds like a poem or a line for one... I can sit and watch our trees for hrs. and almost see smiles bursting forward from there bark - Smiling... What shall you gain? Inspiration and boundless energy from it all! I know that is what I get! from every nuance of life, nature and love!

A great poem Randy full of meaning. Love the last line, what shall we gain. We should always take time to admire the small things in life and the time we have as this can bring much joy!
