My Gift

A gift of sacrifice and love given once is a blessing, but promised to be given again is pure grace.

Believe me, my friend, I am not that clever.

Though some of the things that come from me surpass

My life experience; an un-sketched cartoon

Placed in the help-wanted section of the newspaper.

What I offer you now is the unsent gift

From a storehouse without measure.

For by what means could one measure

Actions that can not be touched…who is that clever?

There is one thing that I can give for a gift…

Something that I hope would even surpass

Anything found on the front page of your newspaper

Or even in the place you find the funniest cartoon.

I give you that which cannot be found in a cartoon…

Something beyond need to measure.

Whether thick with wasted ink or thin, no newspaper

Could contain anything so worldly clever…

For what I offer holds laughter and tears that surpass

Anything you may find in the finest wrapped gift.

I offer you a sensation not found in a normal gift…

I offer you smiles beyond those given by any cartoon.

This which I give you will always surpass

Your dreams, your needs and anything you may measure

And is given not because I am so clever,

Nor because I read the classifieds in the newspaper.

What I want to give has nothing to do with the newspaper,

But is the finest of what I could think as a gift…

It is the result of something beyond thoughts so clever,

And holds more joy and humor than found in any cartoon…

It is beyond any material measure

And will take you where nothing else can surpass.

Here, then is that special joy given to surpass

All that is found in your life’s newspaper,

It is love unlimited, without measure;

It is peace given through His body’s gift;

It is joy beyond any seen in a cartoon…

It  is God’s Son, offered with love, nothing more clever.

The world offers things clever, bundled like in a newspaper,

Yet I bring you that which does surpass any worldly gift…

It is not a fading cartoon, but a love unbounded, without measure.

A gift of Jesus is truly a wonderful gift. I know him and believe in him and reading this has brought me life again.
