How long in a care home
Sunday, May 25, 2014
Fused bones unable to make a selection from the chocolate box.
Legs no longer independently walk over pavements and carpets.
So sudden the change. A stoke down the left side paralyses the support of the ailing frame.
Only last month a steady stick supported a walk, took her to the cycle path to hear the birds and if the right wavelength of her hearing aid was in order, she heard them.
Now two venues are her life; a bed and a chair accessed through the support of two nurses. Immobile once seated or lying, her world no longer retains her membership. Has it lapsed?
If physiotherapy can bring the limbs to life, will I not run and dance again and be returned to the home I always knew?
No, the mind is racing ahead. Hope is no longer a reality.
The call to end life is strong within her ninety year old frame. Will it come tonight?
If it is calm and dignified and God’s will, let it happen, says the son and daughter.
But only God will decide when.
