A poem about growing pains

1958 Chevrolet convertible

YELLOW

I don’t know how tall Dolly was

But at the childhood level from where I looked up

A little girl in dirty jeans

She looked extraordinarily tall to me

With shiny red of her toenail polish glistening

Through the silk of her stockings

Just peaking shy and daintily

From under the patent leather caressing her toes

To the thin four inch spike on her strappy little sandal

Up the Ssssssssss of her buckle and strap clad ankle

Encircled in black

And the back of her calf

Stopping briefly to admire the way her thigh

Curved and disappeared under a frayed fringe of denim

36 inches from the ground to where her buttock lurked in the shadows

I’d bet in retrospect.

I still recall how

Her back pockets rounded from my view

Over the curve of her muscular ass

She smiled down at me

Straight white teeth behind shiny pink lips

Kind eyes

Bright blue and shocking

Rimmed by long black lashes

And smudged with kohl

Against her beautiful tanned face

Framed with thick black and curly hair

Twisting at the waist

She addressed me

At my short childhood height

Dolly’s face was partially occluded

By her amazing bosom

And when she bent down to me

Her cleavage

Was bound in black lace

Visible under her tight, short t-shirt

Which was even with my face

Her scarlet  fingertips

Offered me a Popsicle

I noticed as my traveling eyes finally caught up to hers

She looked at me slyly and asked with a smirk

“Are you in love with me?”

I turned as red as a beet

Eyes wide, I gasped and ran out the back door

I jumped into the swimming pool clothes and all

I could not process the confusion I felt at that moment

I laugh about it now, but- at the time it was overwhelming

Dolly appeared with a towel

She stood at the steps and extended her hand

To pull me from the shocking dose of reality

For some reason or another the song, "Hello Dolly" came to mind...
I wonder what ever became of your Dolly? I remember my older sister dressing up for her dates and I would watch her put on her make-up and paint her nails...all the while whishing I was the one old enough to clad such glimmer!
I guess life is just all in how we interpret it...?

stirring visitation in a time gone by, when discovery is so magical and yet can be so devastatingly shocking. the doors open, and inviting, perhaps more daring, the reader to become you in this moment in time. ultimately, to feel the baptism of water, and re-merge as in birth, to the waiting face of the woman who awakened you from the womb. quite an enjoyable piece.

This is so "in the moment" shared, Blue. It is a nice "slap in the face" dose of reality that most do not know about. Thank you for sharing this. I love it. Be well all ways. Love and peace to you,

Regis

Fan....tastic Write Blue, you painted such a hot picture of this dazzling sex Goddess as seen through the eyes of a child when it came to the part about "Do you love me?" I almost blurted out yes it seemed so real. Though this may be an experience of yours that you are sharing, I think many have had the same type of adolescent experience which forever haunts us with the memory and how sweet life was back then.
