Poetry

Sitting in my room at night
I opened my eyes to search for light
and to my most amazed surprize
there was a dark spot there with eyes.

Right in front and eight feet off ground
a darkness hovered, contained and round
it floated there, darker than night
I thought I should scream in terrible fright.

But I did not, I sat and stared
it made no move just floated there
I felt it's eyes look deep within
it's gaze did not look upon my skin.

And for a moment, I did not judge
did not fear or sense a grudge
just plain and simple curiousity
from me to it and it to me.

The moment passed and in came sense
a darkness there and so intense
"Begone" I screamed into the night
then the dark spot passed, out of sight.

Beyond my fears, in the light of day
when I can keep the unknown at bay
I thought I might have been mistaken
why has darkness been forsaken?

This spot of dark had done no harm
had not frightened me or caused alarm
so maybe I have judged you wrong
oh darkness, in the night so long.

You are just an entity
in many ways, just like me
in a body encased in shade
no move against me had you made.

If you, strange darknees, come back again
I may not treat you as my friend
but possibly, I'll talk to you
ask you what it is you do.

Very nice,
yes the darkness/light, good/bad, yes/no, joy/pain etc. We cannot have one without the other, each being part of the whole.
This is a wonderful piece. Thank you

A most interesting write; I appreciate this original perspective on "darkness." Thank you, Jennifer. Love and best wishes to you,

This spins a whirlwind around the boogey man of night dreams that seems to haunt us all from time to time from childhood to seniorhood, and often it does overrun the night and into the day until we discover, like the authour, we have the power to disburse it.

This is so delightful - love the mysterious essence and the expressed willingness to look beyond fear of the unknown and appreciate those things we may not at first (or ever) understand.
